Gabourey Sidibe Shares The 1 Reason She Doesn’t Throw Birthday Parties For Her Kids

Gabourey Sidibe has a bold reason for keeping her kids’ birthday celebrations low-key — and, no, it’s not what you might expect.

Last year, Sidibe and husband Brandon Frankel welcomed twins Cooper and Maya into the world, and since then, the duo has taken a refreshingly different approach to celebrating their children’s lives at such a tender age.

While making a Wednesday appearance on the daytime talk show “Sherri,” Sidibe was asked why she opted out of throwing lavish birthday bashes for her little ones.

“To be fair, they had to trick me into having the baby shower,” Sidibe joked, nodding to her general aversion to parties.

She continued by gently reminding viewers that there’s a distinct difference between how she celebrates her kids and how others might.

“We are 100% going to celebrate them, but we’re going to celebrate them with an experience,” Sidibe explained, revealing that trips to places like the zoo and the aquarium were at the top of their list.

The “Precious” actor stated that her reasoning for this is to get her children acclimated to the feeling of knowing that their special day is worth celebrating. The actor’s children will turn 1 in June, noting that they won’t “remember a party,” and jokes that the Kardashians have made it hard for celebrity parents to have birthdays for their kids.

“The Kardashians have made it very hard for us… those with regular money,” Sidibe sarcastically stated. “I’m not spending $100,000 on some circus-themed thing that the babies can only experience through pictures. That’s crazy.”

She went on to say that she understands that a toddler’s birthday party is for the parents and the adults, but reveals that she doesn’t “like that many people in her house.”

Sidibe also shared that her husband isn’t exactly a “party person” either, and vowed to “get it together” by the children’s 3rd birthday.
