“The Pitt” has been renewed for Season 2 at Max.
The medical drama originally debuted on the streamer in January, with the Season 1 finale set to air on April 10. New episodes debut on Thursdays.
“It’s been a thrill to watch audiences embrace ‘The Pitt’ as an update to procedural storytelling with a cast who authentically embody the heroics of doctors and nurses on shift in a 2025 emergency room,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of Max Original Programming. “Our collaboration with John Wells, R. Scott Gemmill, Noah Wyle and Warner Bros. Television has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and we are excited to continue down this path with another season.”
The series stars Noah Wyle, Tracey Ifeachor, Patrick Ball, Katherine LaNasa, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, and Shabana Azeez. Per the official logline, “Each episode follows an hour of Dr. Robby’s (Wyle) 15-hour shift as the chief attendant in Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital’s emergency room.”
R. Scott Gemmill created the series and serves as an executive producer. Wyle is also an executive producer along with John Wells and Erin Jontow of John Wells Productions, Michael Hissrich and Simran Baidwan. Warner Bros. Television, where John Wells Productions is under an overall deal, is the studio.
“The Pitt” has been well received by critics since its debut, holding a 93% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
“We’re excited and delighted with the audience response for our first season of ‘The Pitt’ and can’t be more appreciative of our partners at Max and Warner Bros Television for all of their extraordinary support throughout our first season,” said Gemmill, Wells, and Wyle in a joint statement.
“From its powerful stories to its realistic set and unique real-time format, ‘The Pitt’ is truly a masterclass in storytelling — and it’s all due to the talented team of executive producers and crew, and the incredible ensemble cast who truly embody the pace and pressure of a hospital emergency department,” said Channing Dungey, Chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group and WBD US Networks. “John, Noah, Scott and the team have so many more stories to tell, and we are thankful to our partners at Max for giving them the opportunity to do so.”
The renewal comes despite the fact that the series is the subject of an ongoing lawsuit. The estate of Michael Crichton is currently in a legal battle with Warner Bros. Discovery and the producers, claiming that “The Pitt” is an unauthorized reboot of “ER,” which Crichton created and on which Wells, Wyle, and Gemmill all worked.
