Tegan Maccormack, an Australian influencer and cake decorator better known as Tigga Mac, has shared some personal health news.

On Wednesday, April 16, she took to Instagram to let fans know that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

“Okie Dokie and G’day everyone! Just wanted to fill you all in on something that has been going on with me,” she wrote in a lengthy personal statement, which addressed a recent absence from her channel. “Unfortunately, a couple of weeks ago, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The good news is, we’ve caught it early. It’s treatable. And I’m going to be ok.”

Maccormack described the diagnosis as “a big shock,” saying, “the last couple of weeks have been rough.”

“So what’s the plan? First step is surgery, which is next week. Then I’ll start my treatment,” she explained in her statement, assuring everyone that she was doing alright.

“It’s all been very overwhelming and scary, but I have the best support network. I’m surrounded by the most amazing family and friends.”

The influencer, who attracted attention with her cartoonish cake creations, said that she was “lucky” she “caught this when I did.”

“I found the lump myself, I went to my GP, got scans done a couple of days later and then the day after that I had my diagnosis,” she said, urging other women to take a proactive stance with their health.

Maccormack continued, “Cancer is so common but somehow you still don’t expect it to happen to you. It still doesn’t feel real, but it is.”

While she shared her diagnosis with her followers, she noted that she will not be documenting her treatment plan on social media.

“I hope you all understand that it’s something I want to do privately. This channel has always been my happy place, an escape from the world. I want to keep it that way,” she wrote. “I’ll still be coming in to the cake kitchen whenever I feel up to it. I’ll be making fun things any chance I get!”

Hours after the initial announcement, the decorator thanked fans for their support via her Instagram Stories, writing, “I was so nervous sharing this news. I was in a little bubble and now that bubble has popped. But I’m so glad it’s out.”

On April 6, Maccormack marked the second anniversary of a cartoon cake that she designed, which went viral on the platform. The foodie influencer now has 1.8 million followers on TikTok and nearly 800,000 on Instagram.
