Wendy’s Declines to Apologize for Mocking Katy Perry’s Space Flight in the Weirdest Social Media Beef You’ll See This Week

A multi-billion-dollar fast-food chain taking cheap shots at a pop singer moments after she returned from a voyage to space might be the strangest social media beef you read about this week.

For whatever reason, Wendy’s took its notoriously snarky X page and turned it right at Katy Perry on Monday after she touched back down to Earth. When offered an opportunity to apologize to her and her offended fanbase on Thursday, the company declined.

For whatever reason, Wendy’s took its notoriously snarky X page and turned it right at Katy Perry on Monday after she touched back down to Earth. When offered an opportunity to apologize to her and her offended fanbase on Thursday, the company declined.

Perry traveled aboard a Blue Origin craft with Lauren SanchezGayle King, and three other women on Monday morning for an 11-minute trip to the edge of space.

Wendy’s racked up a ton of X engagements for its targeting of Perry and apparently attracted the attention of someone in her orbit.

People magazine spoke to a person described as close to the situation, who essentially accused the chain of misogyny.

“Wendy’s didn’t make a joke — they made a choice. Their recent posts on X aimed at Katy Perry were not only disrespectful, but blatantly inappropriate,” the person told People. “This wasn’t harmless banter, this was a billion-dollar brand using its platform to publicly demean a woman… when billion-dollar brands join in, it’s irresponsible.”

Wendy’s was asked to comment for People‘s story on the Perry posts. The company provided a statement, but it was absent of anything resembling an apology as Wendy’s instead defended its social media account.

The company replied, “We always bring a little spice to our socials, but Wendy’s has a ton of respect for Katy Perry and her out-of-this-world-talent.”
