Chris Evans has plenty of admiration for his Marvel companion Scarlett Johansson.

Johansson, 40, is honored as one of Time‘s 100 most influential people of 2025, and Evans, 43, thinks the title is befitting the actress, whom he says he views as family.

“Despite her being three years younger than me, I’ve always considered Scarlett Johansson my older sister,” the Captain America actor wrote in an essay for the Time honor, mentioning that they first met while filming The Perfect Score in 2002.

“Even at 17, she had wisdom, talent and grit beyond her years. I quickly revered her as any younger sibling would, with equal parts admiration and intimidation,” Evans added.

The Oscar nominee was also described by Evans as “one of the most versatile, influential and bankable actors of her generation” as well as “a pioneer, a rebel, a force, an artist without limits and, most important, without fear.”

“That’s why even though I’m older, I learn from her, I lean on her, and I look up to her. And as any ‘younger’ sibling would

Evans and Johansson’s bond goes beyond starring in superhero-powered blockbusters, including the two getting inked together along with some of their Avengers cast. Robert Downey Jr. previously revealed that he, Johansson and Evans along with Chris Hemsworth and Jeremy Renner all got matching tattoos.

“Five of the original six Avengers got a tattoo,” Downey, 55, told Entertainment Weekly in 2018, noting the one actor who opted out was Mark Ruffalo.

While speaking with The New York Times to promote her movie Fly Me to the Moon, Johansson also said there’s an active MCU group chat.

Scarlett Johansson (L) and Chris Evans attend the Los Angeles World Premiere of Marvel Studios' "Avengers: Endgame" at the Los Angeles Convention Center on April 23, 2019 in Los Angeles, California.

“Yes, that’s true. But hopefully, nobody will ever read it,” Johansson said when asked whether the cast has kept up with a group thread. “Everything goes on in there. I mean, really. If somebody’s gotten terrible reviews, that could be something that comes up.”

Though Johansson’s Marvel journey concluded after her character Natasha Romanoff received a solo movie with 2021’s Black Widow, she noted she still sees her and her five main costars as “family.”

“We’ve been through an incredible experience over a decade plus of time. It was life-changing for all of us,” she said in the interview. “If you text the chain, you can guarantee that within a few minutes most people will respond, which is great.”
