Joshua Jackson Names the 1 Dawson’s Creek Storyline He ‘Didn’t Think’ Was ‘Needed’

Passionate fans of the late 1990s/early 2000s series Dawson’s Creek may never stop debating some of the show’s more polarizing storylines. And now star Joshua Jackson has entered the chat.

Speaking to PEOPLE at the 36th Annual GLAAD Media Awards on Thursday, March 27, Jackson shared there was a storyline on Dawson’s Creek involving his character that never made sense to him.

“I don’t think Pacey ever needed to be a stockbroker,” he said. “I don’t really think we needed to go there.”

When asked to further expand, Jackson, 46, explained, “I don’t know where that came from. I don’t know what the point of that was. Didn’t really feel like that’s something that Pacey would’ve got up to. Off the top of my head, that’s the one I don’t think we needed.”

The Doctor Odyssey actor explained that the goatee that went along with the plot point was really what didn’t work for his character.

“I don’t think we needed a goatee. Maybe that’s it: it’s goatee Pacey,” he said with a laugh. “It doesn’t work for me.”

From 1998 to 2003, Jackson starred as Pacey Witter in the popular WB teen drama series.

The six-season show, set in the fictional small town of Capeside, Mass., followed a trio of best friends, including Jackson’s Pacey, James Van Der Beek‘s Dawson Leery and Katie Holmes as Joey Potter. Michelle Williams‘ Jen Lindley further complicated the group’s dynamic.

Jackson recently spoke with PEOPLE about the fact that he is still “Team Pacey,” even 20-plus years after the series wrapped.

When asked if he’s ever changed his mind, he doubled down: “No. I’m way too petty for that. I’ll go to my grave Team Pacey.”
